Jacksonville, Fla (September 14, 2015) – Taverna Yamas and Veterans United Craft Brewery are coming together to give a new leash on life to rescue dogs and military veterans. The event, “Barks for Beers,” is to benefit K9s For Warriors, an organization that trains rescue dogs to become certified service dogs and pairs them with veterans who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury, and/or Military Sexual Trauma.
“The unfortunate, staggering fact is, everyday 22 veterans returning from combat take their own lives,” said Rory Diamond, Executive Director, at K9s For Warriors. “The K9s for Warriors training program not only provides our soldiers with a live-saving gift, but it’s also an opportunity for peer to peer support with other servicemen and women who suffer from similar issues.”
“Barks for Beers” takes place on Thursday, September 24th, 2015 at Taverna Yamas, a Greek restaurant located on the Southside. Taverna Yamas will feature Veterans United Craft Brewery’s Scout Dog 44 Amber Ale on tap for $3 all day. All proceeds made from Scout Dog 44 on this day will donate to K9s For Warriors. Additionally, Taverna Yamas will donate 10% of checks on full price menu items.
From 6pm – 8pm
Meet and greet with K9s for Warriors representatives and their service dogs as well as Ron Gamble, founder and Brewmaster of Veterans United Craft Brewery. Raffle tickets are sold between this time with 100% off raffle sales going to K9s For Warriors. Raffle items are generously donated by Veterans United Craft Brewery and Taverna Yamas. The night will include, music, belly dancing, Zorba dancing, and the traditional Greek napkin throwing.
“We are thrilled to work together with Veterans United Craft Brewery as we share a mutual interest in benefitting K9s For Warrior,” said Kemary Chan, sales and marketing manager of Taverna Yamas. “We hope this event will help us all get to know and bond with our local community and veterans while giving back to a wonderful organization.”

]]>OPA!
Plate breaks (intentionally or unintentionally), “OPA!”
Saganaki goes up in flames, “OPA!”
Napkins just went up in the air, “OPA!”
A group is drinking and instead of saying, “cheers,” they say, “OPA!”
Dancing on the table, “OPA!”
How do we define OPA? The Greek word is used in many different situations as an exclamation, affirmation, utterance or declaration. You may use it to express joy and celebration or you can use it as utterance to tell somebody to stop doing something. You could even use it to invite somebody to dance with you on our tables! Then you can use it again when you’re having so much fun on the tables! Please dance at your own risk.
However the actual meaning is similar to “oops” or “uh oh!” So if Britney Spears was Greek she would say, “OPA, I did it again.” *crickets* *nervous laughter*
If you’re at a busy Greek restaurant and you hear someone bumps into the bus boy and everything falls you just might hear, “OPA!”
So next time you’re at Taverna Yamas we want to hear how you use OPA!
